What to expect

How a emergency dental care
appointment runs.

We keep things calm and unhurried. Here's the rhythm you can expect from start to finish, no surprises.

  1. Phone first

Call us first thing, (02) 9570 4044. Even before opening, the message gives the after-hours number for genuine emergencies. Phone triage tells us how urgent it is and what to prepare for.

  2. Same-day where possible

We hold emergency slots aside on most days, including Saturday mornings. Where we have capacity, we'll see you the same day. We can't always guarantee it but we genuinely try.

  3. Diagnose & relieve

First priority is getting you out of pain and stabilising the situation. That might mean a temporary filling, antibiotics for an infection, or replacing a lost crown. Often we leave definitive treatment for a follow-up visit.

  4. Plan from there

Once you're comfortable, we explain what happened, what's needed long-term, and book the follow-up. No pressure, no rush.

What's included

  • Priority booking where slots are available
  • Diagnostic exam and x-rays

Common questions

Things people
often ask.

Can't see your question? Call us on (02) 9570 4044 and we'll happily talk it through.

What counts as a dental emergency?

Severe tooth pain that's keeping you awake, a knocked-out tooth, a broken or chipped tooth (especially front teeth), facial swelling, abscess, lost filling causing pain, broken dentures, or post-extraction bleeding that won't stop. If you're unsure, call, phone triage is free.

What if a tooth is knocked out?

Time matters. Pick it up by the crown (not the root), rinse gently with milk or saline if dirty, and put it back in the socket if you can. Otherwise keep it in milk or saliva and call us straight away, successful re-implantation depends on getting in within 30 to 60 minutes.

Will you see me out of hours?

We're not a 24-hour clinic. For genuine after-hours emergencies, we direct you to the Emergency Dental Service or your nearest hospital ED if there's facial swelling, fever, or breathing/swallowing difficulty. Our voicemail explains the pathway.

What about toothache that comes and goes?

Often a sign of an underlying problem (decay, cracked tooth, early nerve issue) that's worth investigating before it becomes a true emergency. We'll fit you in soon, usually the same week.

Will you see me if I'm not a regular patient?

Yes. Emergencies are emergencies. We'll get you out of pain and you can decide afterwards whether to keep coming back.

What if I can't afford it right now?

Tell us. We can prioritise pain relief and stabilisation now and plan the rest in stages over time. Many treatments can be staged so cost spreads. Better to come in than to leave it.
