If snoring is disrupting your sleep, or your partner's, a custom-fitted oral appliance can help. Worn at night, it gently positions the lower jaw forward to keep the airway open, often reducing snoring significantly.

What to expect

How a snoring treatment
appointment runs.

We keep things calm and unhurried. Here's the rhythm you can expect from start to finish, no surprises.

  1. Assessment

We talk through your snoring history, sleep quality, and any signs that point to sleep apnoea. If we think a sleep study is needed first, we'll refer you to a sleep physician.

  2. Impressions or scan

Quick, about 15 minutes. Digital scan if you prefer; traditional impressions if it's a better fit for your case.

  3. Fitting & adjustment

Made in the dental lab. About a week later we fit it, check it sits comfortably, and dial in the jaw position. Most patients adapt within a couple of weeks.

  4. Review

We review at your next check-up to confirm the snoring has settled and the appliance is wearing well. Adjustments as needed.

What's included

Every appointment, in full.

  • Assessment of bite, airway and snoring history
  • Discussion of whether sleep-physician referral is appropriate
  • Custom impressions or digital scan
  • Lab-made mandibular advancement appliance
  • Fitting and adjustment of appliance position
  • Care and storage advice
  • Annual review at your check-up

Why it matters

Loud, persistent snoring can affect sleep quality and may be a sign of obstructive sleep apnoea. We assess, fit, and review, and refer to a sleep physician where appropriate.

Common questions

Things people
often ask.

Can't see your question? Call us on (02) 9570 4044 and we'll happily talk it through.

How does an oral appliance reduce snoring?

It holds the lower jaw slightly forward during sleep, which keeps the soft tissues at the back of the throat from collapsing and vibrating. For many patients, snoring drops significantly within the first few weeks of consistent wear.

Is snoring the same as sleep apnoea?

No, but heavy snoring can be a sign of it. If we suspect sleep apnoea (gasping, daytime fatigue, witnessed pauses in breathing), we'll refer you for a sleep study before fitting an appliance.

Will it be uncomfortable?

There's an adjustment period of 1 to 2 weeks. Most patients find it surprisingly easy to sleep with once they're used to it. We can adjust the position if anything feels off.

Is it covered by my health fund?

Many extras policies cover custom oral appliances. We'll quote any out-of-pocket and process the claim on the spot.
