What to expect

How a fillings
appointment runs.

We keep things calm and unhurried. Here's the rhythm you can expect from start to finish, no surprises.

  1. Numbing

We start with topical gel before the local anaesthetic so you barely feel the needle. We give it time to work fully, there's no rush.

  2. Cleaning the tooth

We remove decay or the old material gently. You'll hear the drill but you won't feel anything sharp. Tell us at any point if you'd like a break.

  3. Placing the filling

Composite resin goes in layered, each layer cured with a small blue light. We sculpt it to match the contour of your natural tooth.

  4. Bite check & finish

We polish the surface, check the bite with marking paper, and adjust until it feels right. You can usually eat once the numbness wears off.

What's included

Every appointment, in full.

  • Local anaesthetic for full comfort
  • Removal of decay or old failing filling material
  • Tooth-coloured composite resin matched to your shade
  • Layered placement and curing under blue light
  • Sculpting to match your natural tooth shape
  • Polish for a smooth, natural surface
  • Bite check before you leave the chair

Why it matters

Untreated decay reaches the nerve. A small filling now is a much easier conversation than a root canal later.

Common questions

Things people
often ask.

Can't see your question? Call us on (02) 9570 4044 and we'll happily talk it through.

Will a filling hurt?

The local anaesthetic should make it pain-free. You'll feel pressure and vibration but nothing sharp. If anything feels uncomfortable, we stop and add more anaesthetic.

How long do composite fillings last?

Modern composite fillings typically last 7 to 10 years on chewing surfaces, often longer on smaller fillings between teeth. Lifespan depends on size, your bite and how well you look after them.

Can I eat after a filling?

Wait until the numbness wears off, usually 2 to 4 hours, so you don't accidentally bite your cheek or tongue. After that, eat normally.

Will my tooth be sensitive afterwards?

Some sensitivity to cold or pressure for a few days is normal, especially after a deeper filling. If it persists beyond a week, or worsens, give us a call.

Are fillings covered by my health fund?

Most extras policies cover fillings. We process claims on the spot via HICAPS and quote any out-of-pocket before we start, so there are no surprises.
