What to expect

How a resin bonding
appointment runs.

We keep things calm and unhurried. Here's the rhythm you can expect from start to finish, no surprises.

  1. Planning

We talk about what's bothering you and show you how bonding could change it. For some cases bonding is perfect; for others (worn-down bites, large gaps) we explain why a different option might be better.

  2. Shade match

We pick the shade in natural light. The aim is for the bonding to disappear into your existing teeth.

  3. Bonding

We clean the tooth surface, apply the bonding agent, and layer the composite. Each layer is set with a small blue light. We sculpt and shape the resin to match the natural tooth contour.

  4. Polish & finish

We polish to a natural lustre. Bite check, photographs, and you're done, usually in a single appointment per tooth.

Common questions

Things people
often ask.

Can't see your question? Call us on (02) 9570 4044 and we'll happily talk it through.

How long does bonding last?

Composite bonding typically lasts 5 to 10 years before it needs touching up or replacing. Lifespan depends on where it is, your bite, and habits like grinding or biting nails.

Will it stain?

Composite can pick up some staining from coffee, red wine and smoking over time. Regular cleans help. We can polish out surface stain at your check-ups.

Is there any drilling?

Often none at all, that's the appeal of bonding. For some cases (where we're masking dark teeth or adding bulk) we may need to lightly roughen the surface.

How is it different from veneers?

Bonding uses composite resin done in one visit. Veneers are porcelain, made in the lab, and last longer (10 to 15+ years) but cost more and usually involve some tooth preparation. Bonding is the more conservative starting point for many cases.

Can it close gaps between teeth?

Small to moderate gaps, yes, that's a common bonding case. Larger gaps may need orthodontics first. We'll show you what's possible at consultation.

Can I just do one tooth?

Absolutely, chipped tooth, slightly short tooth, single dark tooth, single-tooth bonding cases are common. We just need to match the shade to your existing teeth.
