What to expect

How a teeth whitening
appointment runs.

We keep things calm and unhurried. Here's the rhythm you can expect from start to finish, no surprises.

  1. Assessment

We check the colour of your existing fillings, crowns and veneers (these don't whiten), assess sensitivity risk, and confirm your gums are healthy enough.

  2. Custom trays

We take impressions or a scan. Your trays are made in the lab to fit only your teeth, much better than over-the-counter strips.

  3. Wearing them

You wear the trays for 30 to 60 minutes a day, or overnight if you prefer. Most patients see noticeable change within 2 to 3 weeks of consistent use.

  4. Maintenance

Once you've reached your shade, top-up nights every couple of months keep it stable. We sell refill gel as needed.

Common questions

Things people
often ask.

Can't see your question? Call us on (02) 9570 4044 and we'll happily talk it through.

How white will my teeth get?

Results vary significantly. Most patients lighten by 3 to 8 shades. Yellow tones whiten well; grey tones less predictably. Existing fillings, crowns and veneers don't whiten, sometimes we replace these afterwards to match the new shade.

Will it cause sensitivity?

Some sensitivity to cold during whitening is common, usually transient, fading within a day or two of stopping. We can adjust the gel strength, recommend desensitising toothpaste, or take rest days if it's significant.

Is it safe for enamel?

Professionally-prescribed whitening gel used as directed is well-tolerated and doesn't damage enamel. The risk is more around overuse, excessive concentration, or whitening on damaged teeth, which is why we assess first.

Why custom trays vs over-the-counter strips?

Custom trays hold the gel exactly where it needs to be, don't slip, don't irritate the gums, and use a stronger gel safely. Over-the-counter strips can work but results are less predictable and less even.

How long does the result last?

Most patients hold their result for 12 to 24 months with occasional top-ups. Coffee, tea, red wine, smoking and curry pigments will all gradually pull the colour back over time.

Should I whiten before getting a crown or veneer?

Yes, always whiten first if you're planning new front-tooth work. Crowns and veneers are made to match your current shade, so it's important to settle on the colour you want before they're made.
